Exploring Barbados: Part 1
My boyfriend is in Barbados for medical school. Here are some fun places I checked out during my memorable first visit.
Visiting my boyfriend in Barbados, where he’s attending medical school, was an amazing experience filled with vibrant culture, delicious food, and the most beautiful beaches. I'm deeply proud of him for pursuing his dreams, and this journey has given me the opportunity to visit and experience the island for the first time. From the lively atmosphere of Oistin’s Fish Fry to the serene beauty of Deia Beach Club, my time on the island was a perfect blend of relaxation, celebration and adventure. I’m excited to continue visiting him and further explore Barbados during this special chapter of our lives. Let me share some of the highlights and must-visit spots that made my trip so special.
Oistin’s Fish Fry
The place to be on a Friday night! This was so much fun. It’s outdoors, informal and just full of vibes. There are multiple stands to purchase delicious, authentic food. I had blue marlin fish, macaroni pie, coleslaw, and of course some rum punch. 10/10! There are also performers, a DJ, dancing and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’re at a friend’s cookout. Want to get a feel of the vibes? Watch this!
We went at night for dinner, I would love to go back in the day time and enjoy the beach. But I loved the nighttime ambiance for a date night. The sound of waves during dinner was just so nice and relaxing. The food was delicious! I had coconut shrimp, yuca and an aeperol spritz to drink. I was impressed with the size of the drink for the price. Remember the prices on the site are in bajan, divide in half for what it would cost USD.
Starbucks
Sounds basic I know, but hear me out. I am including Starbucks because they have some surprisingly unique menu items. I opted for a jerk chicken bagel and wow! The jerk seasoning was perfectly balanced—not too overpowering, just enough to give a little kick, and the sandwich went nice with an iced shaken expresso. My boyfriend and I sat here one morning and had a quick breakfast while we went through emails. It was a cool start to our day, we are both coffee lovers.
You can easily spend an entire day here and hang out on the beach, watch a game in the sports room and of course there’s food and drinks. This was such an enjoyable day, the water was perfect and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They also have activities on the beach like jet skis and parasailing. You can watch my full recap HERE.
Bonus - if you layover in Miami, go to Cafe Versailles in the airport for coffee and empenadas, it will literally mentally transport you to Cuba! I ended up having a longer layover than planned (a story for another day) and went here twice. I am personally not a fan of Miami, but I would take a trip there to dine at the actual restaurant.
I will be visiting Barbados again soon, if you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments. And if you are visiting Barbados soon, make sure you watch this video. Thank you for reading, I would love for you to subscribe!
